Celebrating Carderock 2026

We are excited to kick off planning for our annual International Night, but with a fun update. This year, in addition to hosting tables representing national identities, we are broadening our event beyond to allow every student to share what makes them unique and proud of who they are under a new festival name:

Celebrating Carderock!  A Multicultural Festival

WHY THE NAME CHANGE?
While we wish to hold true to the spirit of the International Night, we want to embrace all the kinds of diversity that make Carderock such a special place. Every child in our school carries a unique story that is shaped by their homelife, traditions, interests and identities. This spring, we want to celebrate all of their stories in a space that is all their own.

WHY HOST A TABLE?
Children learn best from each other. When kids see their classmates’ identities and traditions celebrated, they develop curiosity, empathy, and a deeper appreciation for the world around them. Hosting/co-hosting a table is one of the most meaningful ways your child can share who they are and help their friends grow. Tables can represent national identities, as in previous years, or be framed around other cultural or social belongings from religious, ethnic, and regional identities to meaningful traditions, passions, and memberships that are important to our children’s sense of selves.

Your table might feature:
• Food
• Photos, clothing, or objects
• An interactive activity
• Anything that feels special to your family!

There’s no right or wrong way to share your identity! The DEI committee is always happy to guide you with ideas.

We can’t wait to learn from your family. Every student represented makes our school community richer — and every child who attends will leave with a wider world.
